After a horrible 2010 online poker campaign, at one point causing him to quit poker towards the end of the year and leave Full Tilt Poker in the process –which was probably a good thing considering what has happened post-Black Friday—Ilari Sahamies has finally gotten back into the groove, and is once again back to his winning ways thanks to a massive $1 million heater this past week at PokerStars.
Sahamies plays at PokerStars under the screen-name “Ilari FIN” having retired his infamous “Ziigmund” screen-name at Full Tilt Poker. As usual, Sahamies winnings have come primarily from the high-stakes PLO tables, where he has battled the current crop of nosebleed players including Team PokerStars Pro Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, and other Nordic superstars like Niki “RealAndyBeal” Jedlicka, Andreas “skjervoy” Torbergsen, and Theo “Theo J” Jorgensen. Other foils have included the recent US export to Canada, Phil “MrSweets28” Galfond; EPT Tallinn winner Ronny “1-ronnyr3” Schwartz, and Gavin “gavz101″ Cochrane.
Sahamies is now up in the neighborhood of $750k on PokerStars, making him the site’s third largest winner on the year, trailing the $1.6 million in profit of Andreas “skjervoy” Torbergsen and the $1.4 million in profit of Gavin “gavz101″ Cochrane.
After a consistent run that saw him up well over $500k for the year, the wheels have once again come off for Viktor Blom, and the Team PokerStars Pro is once again struggling to stay in plus numbers for the year.
